35 Winter Aspens, St. Elmo, Colorado

Some hour and a half after getting a severe tongue-lashing from an indignant pika when I had plopped backpack and my tired fanny down on his home rock, I came upon this sea of winter-boned Aspens. I have an abiding reverence for the natural world, which provides me with not only all my needs, but the finest entertainment as well. It’s only right to give back something for these blessings. The pika got downright neighborly when I shared an apple core and part of a cookie. To the Aspens I give this fleeting moment preserved like the musky smell of potpourri for whoever loves their endlessly changing chorus of standing patterns.
