35 Samurai in Slow Motion, Hilo, Hawaii

One morning, after a flight from Kona to Hilo, I had about an hour to walk around on the juicy side of the Big Island before my ride showed up.Feeling in a floral mood, I chose to get personal with some of the plant life on the airport entry road. That way I could do what I liked, and my ride wouldn't miss me as I was photographing the indigenous photosynthesizers.

I was getting complacent looking at this verdant world through my wide-angle lens, until I felt a barbed blade arresting me though my shirt. As I was framing the offending succulent, it occurred to me that a time compression movie of its growth would be a marvelous experience.
